Great Show!
I saw you play last night (November 14) with T.O.P in Park City, UT. Your feel is outstanding and is just so funky. You really laid down the groove so well and your simplistic style really makes the rest of the band sound so great. Im an aspiring jazz and funk drummer and watching you play last night reignited my dream of playing and touring with an R&B/funk/soul/big band. Thanks so much Herman!

You Are My Mentor Herman ( I finally figured it out )

I started out in music taking piano lessons. I was fairly good at the piano but did not relate to the classics. I liked jazz and that's when I transfered over to H.S.P.V.A. with Doc Morgan directing. What a wonderful experience I had from there Herman ! The main message that I am trying to get accross to my friends is that I believe I might have picked the wrong instrument. I saw you when I was at The arts school through a window and you were jammin on the drums. I want you to know that that is my dream to play like you do. I do not picture myself as a saxophonist or pianist at all. Anyway, just wanted to drop you a line and let you know how proud I am to have graduated from the same school that you did !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Met your nephen (?) Hugh
Your nephew came by my house with Jaylen's step dad in Puyallup WA. Hugh sat down at my Yamaha Stage Custom and laid down some grooves. I am learning to play at the rip old age of 54! I really suck, but I have fun at it. I am going to see if I can hook up Hugh with a local job. Cheers! Jim Guthrie

I adore your style and drumming capabilities. You are the inspiration that has always drove me to play drums and if I could be like any drummer it would be you. I play at my church and people will ask me "why you do some the changes to songs that you do?" and I jus reply "I'm tryin to be like herman" thanks for inspiring a young boy to play drums. hopefully one day I can be like you and work with you on the DW crew.

You may or may not remember, but me and Johnny Barns used to follow you around Houston in the day. Glad to see you doing so well. I still have about 25 of those Nightwynd albums (in vinyl)if you want to do a trade, lol I also have an old worn out cassette tape of "New Toys" and I need another copy because I've worn this one out. I emailed Dwight Sills to see if he could get me another, so what do you think? I have those Nightwynd records to trade, lol Take care, let us know when you are back in town and I'll get a group to come out and hear ya, later

Remember Me?
Hello Herman. I met you in Torrington, CT, along with my husband at the Warner Theater. We were waiting in the back after the concert,February 2006. You ask me why was I looking at Sir Tom, through binoculars, and my seat was so close to the stage. I told you, because I wanted to see everything. Do you remember my husband, and me? We're the interracial couple. You told us that you use to be a drummer for Stevie Wonder, aren't you the modest one. Your accomplishments are many. I read some of the get well e-mails to you although, there was no mention of the type of illness, I pray you're doing well now. My husband, and I has seen Sir Tom Jones, many times. If he comes to Torrington, we will see him again if we can get good seats, hope to see you there. God, bless you. Sincerely, Princess.

i played with herman back in the urban cowboy days with a local band in houston. even then he showed a strengh that few drummers can show at an early age. to see him come as far as he has is an inspiration to young musicians. playing bass with him was such a pleasure.

This is more of a testimonial.. Herman Matthews is a truly funky player. He understands how to let a song speak through him. Beyond being a fabulous technician, Hermand is a force of nature when he plays and is able to balance this force with a tenderness that's hard to beat (no pun intended). A very sexy combination indeed.. Your site is da bomb!!! I adore you, inside and out! heartg
